  • Do I need a license or insurance to ride an e-bike?

    You do not need any license or plates for any of our products because they were built under the Ministry of Transportation regulations. E-Bikes are treated as regular bicycles under most cases. Therefore, e-bike riders are subject to the same rules of the road as regular bicycle riders. However, if you are trying to go faster on your bike, you will need to get a plate and insurance for your bike.

  • How fast can I go?

    All Emmo e-bike speeds are limited to 32km/h which is the legal speed limit of power-assist bike (e-bikes). You will need a license and a plate for your e-bike plus insurance if you would like to go faster. For further information, please contact your local Ministry of Transportation.

  • Where should I ride the e-bike?

    In general, you should ride the e-bike on the bike lanes, or on the far right side of the main road if there is no bike lane available. Riding bikes or e-bikes on the sidewalk is not allowed in most cities. E-Bikes are generally allowed on most trails. However, please be aware that some municipalities may define e-bikes differently and not allow e-bikes on bike lanes or certain trails. Please review your local bylaws and bike trail rules before your rides.

  • Are there any restrictions on e-bikes?

    Besides the speed limit of 32km/h, some other rules are forced to define a power-assisted bicycle (e-bike), such as the weight (no more than 265 lbs), motor output (max 500W), operable pedals.

  • Is there an age limit to ride an e-bike?

    Normally, there is an age limit for riding an e-bike (applied to both the rider and passenger), which varies in different provinces. Typically, it is at least 16 year in British Columbia, Ontario and Newfoundland, while it is 14 in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec.

  • Do I need a helmet to ride an e-bike?

    A helmet is mandatory to operate an e-bike in most provinces. In general, a bicycle helmet is good for riding an e-bike. However, there are some different requirements for helmets in some provinces. It is recommended that you familiarize yourself with your local bylaw before riding your e-bike.

  • Can I carry a passenger on my e-bike?

    A passenger is allowed as long as the bike is designed with a passenger seat.

  • What does 'V' stand for?

    For the battery, V stands for voltage of the bike. Bikes with a higher voltage are capable of higher power output - more torque, higher speed.

  • What does 'Ah' stand for ?

    For the battery, Ah stands for battery capacity. It means how long the battery can last to some extend. For the same bike, a high 'Ah' value means a longer range.

  • Lead-Acid or Lithium? What is the difference?

    There are lithium upgrade options for most of our models. If you are looking for a bike with long travel distance, lithium batteries will be the best choice. Lithium batteries are much lighter in weight and smaller in size, and they have a longer battery life. Typically, the battery life for lead-acid batteries is 1-2 year and 3-5 year for lithium batteries. Also, lithium batteries will be more expensive compared with the lead-acid batteries.

  • How can I get a longer travel range?

    For models with removable batteries, you can always get spare batteries in the future to extend the travel range. You can also purchase the compatible lithium battery and have it installed to replaced the Lead Acid battery. Please note that special modifications and a compatible lithium charger are required in order to upgrade the battery from Lead-Acid to lithium.   • How long does it take to charge the battery?

    The rated charging time for most batteries is approximately 6-10 hours. For high capacity batteries, it could take longer. However, it is not recommended to charge the battery for more than 12 hours. Even though it is not fully charged after 12 hours, you should still unplug the charger and let it cool down before charging again.

    Overcharging protection technology is built into the charger, which means the charger will stop charging the battery once the battery is fully charged. However, the charger will continue detecting the voltage of the battery and attaempt to charge as long as the charger is connected with the battery. Therefore, unplugging the charger on time is still recommended to prevent overcharging of the battery.

  • How much electricity does it cost to charge a battery?

    The wattage of a typical 72V/20Ah SLA charger is 220W (110V~2A). a 10-hour charge will cost approximately $0.20 ~ $0.40.

  • What to do for winter storage?

    For winter storage, you should charge the battery on a regular basis(at least once a month). It is better to keep the battery/bike inside to protect it from the cold.

  • How much does it cost to replace the battery?

    It depends on the battery type. Usually, Lead-Acid batteries cost from $200 to $1000, and lithium batteries start from $650 up to $5500. If you are not sure which specific battery that you are looking for, please contact your Emmo dealer.

  • What maintenance does an e-bike need?

    You should clean and lubricate the chain on a regular basis. You are also required to check the tire pressure and pump the tire to the reccommended tire pressure value.

  • What does PDI means?

    PDI stands for pre-delivery inspections. PDI includes assembly and full inspection of the e-bike before delivery. Local delivery/pick-up will usually include PDI (extra charge applies). On the other hand, if you are receiving the bike in a crate, the bike will be approximately 80% assembled and you will need to assemble some parts by yourself such as: front wheel, fenders, windshields depending on the model of the bike.

  • Can I ride the bike in winter?

    The bikes are still functional and it will be ok to ride in winter. Riding is not recommended when there is ice on the road because it could be slippery. You will also expect a reduced travel range as a result of the low temperature. Winter tires are available for some specific models, please contact your local dealer for more information.

  • What is the weight capacity of the e-bike?

    The load capacity varies among different models. It ranges from 250 lbs to 550lbs.

  • I live in an apartment, is the battery removable?

    A removable battery allows you to charge your batteries separately from your bike and they will be easier for winter storage. Batteries are removable for nearly all of the bicycle style e-bikes. If you are looking for a motorcycle style with a removable battery, the Emmo DX will be the best option. Removable battery options are also available for some of the scooter style e-bikes, such as

      Hornet X, Urban T
      Vovo, Monster, GT84 (only removable for lithium version)
  • Which bike is better for food delivery?

    Scooters tend to be a more practical choice if you are looking for a vehicle for food delivery. The most popular scooter for delivery is the Hornet X. It offers the option to have double batteries and it has a range up to 150km per charge. If you are looking for a smaller model, the Urban T with a Lithium battery or a bicycle style are worth your consideration. They are light and compact, but also capable of traveling far.

  • I am looking for a foldable bike?

    There are several models that fold, including the E-Mini B, F7, and E-Mini Pro.

  • What is the advantage of fat tires?

    Fat tires offer more traction and are more suitable for dirty roads or soft surfaces. Fat tires are less susceptible to bad weathers. Rides are more comfortable on fat tire bikes as they offer a better damping than thinner tire. Fat tire models include the E-Wild B, E-Wild S, E-Wild Pro, E-Mini B, E-Mini Pro, and Monster S.

  • What is the difference among different battery configurations?

    There are a number of battery options for most models. Sealed Lead-Acid (SLA) is a basic option. Lithium batteries, on the other hand, usually offers a long range, longer lifetime and lighter weight. Bigger battery capacity (Ah) of the same model means a longer travel range.

  • What payment methods are accepted?

    You can pay with your credit, debit card in-person or online. E-Transfer and cash are also accepted at our Toronto and Mississauga locations. American Express is only allowed through emmoshop.com. It is recommended to contact your local Emmo dealer before visit if you have any questions about payment.

  • Can I get my bike delivered and how long will that take?

    If there is an Emmo dealer in your neighborhood, most of our dealers offer delivery service at extra cost. If there is no existing dealers in your area, we can also ship the bike to you (shipping and handling fee applies).

  • How long does it take to ship the bike to me?

    After receiving the order, it usually takes around 3 business days for the distribution center to ship out the bike. However, it could take longer if the bike requires special modification.

  • Will the bike be fully assembled when I receive it?

    Most Emmo dealers offer assembled delivery service. However, if the bike is shipped directly to you, it will be about 80% assembled. Some unpacking and simply installation are required.

  • Can I pick up the bike first and pay monthly?

    You can choose our financing options if you would like to pay monthly. For more information on financing, please check the Financing page.

  • What do I need for the financing application?

    Although the actual procedures could be slightly different, to submit the financing application normally requires some of your personal information and a piece of your ID.

  • Where can I find the user's manual for my Emmo e-bike?

    As part of going green, we don't offer hard copy manual any more. Electronic manuals are available on our website. You can either go to the corresponding product page or find 'Support -> User's Manual' in the top menu.

  • How long is the warranty?

    Electric Bikes: One year comprehensive warranty against manufacturer's defects. One Year warranty on original batteries and chargers. (Restrictions Apply, please check Warranty Policy for more information.)

    Scooter Style E-Bikes, Motorcycle Style E-Bikes and Mobility Scooters: One year comprehensive warranty against manufacturer's defects. 6-month warranty on original batteries and chargers. (Restrictions apply, please check Warranty Policy for more information.)

  • What is the return & exchange policy?

    Items need to be returned within 7 days from the delivery date. All items returned must be in new condition and in the original unopened box with proof of purchase. You must notify Emmo of the return or exchange within 7 days of the ship out date. You are responsible for return shipping. On all return and exchange items, a restocking fee of 20% will be withheld from the refund amount. Any items used, with missing components are not eligible for return or exchange.

  • I ordered the wrong item, how can I change or cancel the order?

    Please contact us immediately to change or cancel the order. Emmo is not responsible for any shipping fee related. Restocking fee and service fee apply.

  • Troubleshooting

  • The throttle does not work and the brake light is on?

    All motorcycle style e-bikes are designed with a kickstand kill switch. If the side kickstand is down, the throttle will not work and the brake light will be on. Kick up the side kickstand when you are ready and see if the throttle is working or not.

    For all e-bike models, the brake sensors(switches) will also kill the power when they are activated. If the brake light is on, please check if the brake levers are fully bounced back. Worn-out brake pads, broken brake cable, damaged brake system are all likely causes of the issue.

  • The battery does not give me the expected range.

    There are several factors that will affect the travel range of the bike:

      Low tire pressure - please make sure you check the tire pressure and pump it to the recommended pressure value.
      Brake system too tight - please consult your Emmo dealer for brake adjustment.
      Low temperature - low temperature will affect the performance of batteries.
      Extra weight carried - the rated travel distance is based on ideal condition and a single rider of 175 lbs. Extra weight carried will reduce the travel distance.
      Complicated road conditions - the rated travel distance is based on ideal condition and on flat roads. Stop-and-go, hills will both affect the range.
